Robo roots is our grade 7&8 program, in which we host students from our feeder schools at our meetings Tuesday night. They participate in the FTC Program as our team within a team under the guidance of senior students and mentors. Students learn programming and building skills and become creative thinkers. Program participants develop leadership skills and learn to work with like-minded people. The Roboroots team competes in the FTC division of FIRST Robotics.
Oaktalk is guest speaker series run by the Oakbotics team that invites subject matter experts to talk about their specific fields, and educate a population of hungry minds. This event seeks to inform the entire Oakridge student body about career paths, global and social issues, and technological advancements. Students are given a chance to attend the event with their peers and support local communities. A knowledge filled event, headed by the Oakbotics team members in Oakridge Secondary School. Learn. Realize. Explore. Only in Oaktalks.
Following our competition seasons, our team visits Oakridge’s feeder schools (Riverside, John Dearness and Clara Brenton) to talk to grade 6-8 students about the opportunity for them to join our RoboRoots team. Our robot and experienced team members venture out to each school to give an present who we are, what we do, how to join, and facilitate an interactive demonstration with our robot. These visits spark curiosity in the minds our society will one day rely upon and encourage them to join a community where they will learn not only about the STEAM fields, but how to ask questions, work as a team, and form valuable life long relationships.
